Nick Horn, a New Jersey-based pub singer sensation by day and songster by night, spins a tale of suburban simplicity in his first-time collaboration with fellow Jersey boy Christian Sparacio in “Suburban Movie Song.” The song is sure to escort you to a core memory you forgot you had. Horn and Sparacio recollect experiences of their youth in the tune, while exploring the invigoration our memories provide us with as we grow older. “Suburban Movie Song” has an anthemic quality that sounds like an invitation into the warmth our nostalgia provides. Creative mixing techniques, such as having the drums hard-panned to the left and right, widen the space of the song and give it a unique sound that separates it from its influences.
While inspiration from groups like The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Decemberists can be clearly heard in “Suburban Movie Song,” it’s not just the mixing techniques that separate Horn and Sparacio’s creation from those earlier groups. The background vocals, along with a rhythm that can only be described as triumphant, provide a contemporary sound that is inspirational and helps the listener to visualize the suburbs that are the subject matter of the song. Say Horn and Sparacio, “[We] long to place the listener in their own indie flick, casting them as the main character for 3 minutes and 25 seconds.” And they’ve done just that in this delicate, heartfelt soundscape that gives the necessary air for both of their impeccable vocal performances to breathe.
Nick is just getting started in his music career, but has an exciting smattering of live appearances coming up in New Jersey throughout Spring and Summer of 2022. Christian, once a football player, but edging closer and closer everyday to becoming a full-time musician, also has a series of tour dates this year.
