You Make Us “Colorful”

By Maura Marcellino

Happy Pride Month! DMV-based indie pop trio, SHAED (lead vocalist Chelsea Lee and multi-instrumentalists Max and Spencer Ernst) have partnered with the Capital Pride Alliance to launch the GivePride365 Fund, benefiting local LGBTQ+ charities in the National Capital Region and beyond (The Colorful Campaign). This new single is a story of one’s experience as a member or ally of the LGBTQ+ community.

The music video has a diverse cast of people dancing and lip-syncing to the song, including someone signing the lyrics in sign language! “Something colorful about me. Who I am and I’m gonna be. Who I was is a mystery. That’s over now. Something colorful about me. Who I am and I’m gonna be. Who I was is a memory. That’s over now.”

Throughout this vibrant video, people are shown with different emotions such as bright smiles, teary eyes, dancing around, and also struggling faces as some people struggle with their identity as stated in the awestruck lyrics for the inspiring chorus. Now, the doubt and fear are gone and the people are embracing their true selves. The sense of clarity and pride shown on the faces shows just why Pride Month is so important. At the end of the video, a black screen with a message thanking the LGBTQ+ community for making them colorful. It serves as a reminder that your authentic self is your best self.

During the campaign, remixes of the track are being created with 100% of the net proceeds from downloads and streaming services going toward the GivePride365 Fund, in addition to direct donations during the campaign and “Colorful'” initiatives by local businesses in the DMV area.
