YackDaRula Talks Money with New Single ‘Vibes’

By Charlie Maybee

Based in Quincy, Illinois, YackDaRula has returned with a new collaboration with Zay Tiggy titled “Vibes” that sits back and lets the mind fly on autopilot. There’s an ease to the song that makes it optimal for a relaxing time chilling at home, offering some tenderness and care.

Part of YackDaRula’s upcoming album Poverty Baby (due to be released officially on March 1), “Vibes” is a peek into his softer side. With the opening lyrics, “I gotta stay independent / They be playin’ with my bag,” he dives right into a problem that most think about daily: making sure he has the means to support himself. It becomes clear that he is trying to boast his position saying, “I’m overgrindin’ and winnin’ so they try to get me blast,” demonstrating that the fault in the budget does not lie with him.

As a precursor for the upcoming release, the song’s focus on money forecasts the “poverty” aspect of the album’s title as being right on the pulse of what to expect from YackDaRula’s lyrics. There’s a consciousness and self-awareness that comes through, and despite the topic of money troubles, the song is remarkably chill and laid back. There’s no stressing here – just an opportunity to vibe and reflect as the song’s title hints at.

Poverty Baby is available for pre-save and pre-order on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and BandCamp. Be sure to check out “Vibes” on any of the same streaming platforms. Follow our Alchemical Multigenre Mixdown playlist for more great music featured on the site.
