“Wind The Clock” with Brian K & The Parkway

Brian K. Pagels and Stephen Russ, the DC-area duo that make up Brian K & The Parkway released their debut single, “Wind The Clock” on January 12. The pair will release their debut album, Killing the Bear, on March 29, 2024 alongside the launch of their upcoming tour that begins the night of the release at acclaimed local venue Jammin Java with dates along the East Coast.

“Wind The Clock” is our mutual introduction into the nine-song collection offered by Pagels and Russ whose respective homes in Alexandria and Arlington are connected by the iconic George Washington Memorial Parkway. Russ is from the Carolinas originally, and Pagels shares his hometown of Freehold, NJ with The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen.

Killing The Bear is a nod to the ’70s rock sound of artists like Springsteen, as well as Tom Petty, and Warren Zevon. Brian K & The Parkway’s new single really highlights this focus on songwriting and storytelling while embracing an energetic and uplifting musicality that is guitar driven, rooted in rock and roll, and infuses elements of soul and R&B. The added infusion of piano, organ, and even some horns help further establish Brian K & The Parkway among the iconic composers that influenced their sound.

The band goes on to say, “Killing The Bear‘s overarching theme is about our ever-increasing inability as humans to deal with the source of our problems and instead, look to surface-level, near-term solutions, and then declare immediate victory. The songs serve as vignettes about the things we do to cope, for better or worse.”

GLOSSER Releases Deluxe Edition of Debut Record, DOWNER

When D.C. venues were ready to reopen after COVID-19, indie pop duo GLOSSER was ready to perform. The two, Riley Fanning and Corbin Sheehan, formed the band pre-COVID out of a shared aesthetic vision and passion for music storytelling.
Their first album *DOWNER* was released in January 2023, however they have decided to release a [__deluxe version__]( exactly one year later containing four new tracks – two remixes, a reimagined song, and a cover – that they are hoping will give it a second life and allow them to continue performing around the area.

The band explains that they have spent many shows opening for touring bands that traveled through D.C. “We made music and then venues started to open again,” Sheehan says. Rather than having the “typical grungy” D.C. band experience, they uniquely went straight to club shows.
