Westerner Stays Up with “Restless”

Westerner’s latest track, “Restless”, is about perception and focus.

The trio consists of Cooper Bombadil on vocals, guitar, and synth, Brandon Valerino on bass, synth, and backing vocals, and Mike Gattshall on drums and samples. Since 2020, they have released a song every month. Westerner is an indie rock band with neo-psychedelic and synth-pop flavors. Funky beats and occasional electronics are applied to their indie-rock style to create a unique sound.

Their release, “Restless”, is off of their upcoming album “Kali Yuga Kama Sutra”.

“I wrote this song when my family was criticizing me for my tendency to move around a lot, and according to them, not focus. This upset me because as a creative person I need to move around and experience new things in order to be inspired and have the experience of having my eyes opened by new landscapes.”

The track vibrates with electronic elements while maintaining an indie coolness. The lyrics are a relatable, strong message, especially for creatives.

“The song evolved into being about continually throwing yourself out into the world in order to accomplish your goals and accepting the hard knocks that come at you. It also talks about how you can’t just look for change externally, but you also have to find change internally because the external world can all start to look the same. And it was a way to subtly tease my family with lyrics about just laying around and being “lazy” since that was a common criticism and misinterpretation of my creative process.”

Fans of Foals, George Harrison, or Tom Petty should check out this track and album.
