Wave Length Inspired by 90’s Hip Hop with “BLUEBERRY”

By Margaret Adams

Wilmington-based hip-hop group, Wave Length, debuts their new album with their single, “BLUEBERRY.” Their full-length album, “GARDEN”, features songs titled with a fruit; their latest single, tells a tragic story that explores questions about truth and the nature of evil.

Wave Length consists of emcee MoeSOS DC, emcee/keyboardist Free Will, and bassist Jack Warfield; their sound utilizes genres such as groove hip hop and Neo-soul. Exhibited by their work on “BLUEBERRY,” Wave Length is influencing the hip hop genre by spreading powerful messages in their songs that span a wide range of issues.

“BLUEBERRY” is an introspective tale inspired by the narrative nature of emcees of the 90’s. Following the story of young boy witnessing a vicious murder, the single asks the listener, “what constitutes real goodness and real evil?” With expert use of instrumentation and production described as “warm, yet slightly menacing,” one can point out influences such as 9th Wonder, MF Doom, and J Dilla.

While the single elicits an emotional response, it’s an incredibly important single that audiences of all genres should listen to.

Fans of Earthgang, Lupe Fiasco, Saba, and Mick Jenkins should check out Wave Length’s single “BLUEBERRY” and more exciting new music on our Alchemical Multigenre Mixdown playlist on Spotify.
