Most artists today appreciate the need to diversify their talents. Some do this by prioritizing their contribution to songwriting or production, while others like iTunes and Billboard charting artist and triple-threat Gigi Vega highlight her background in music, dance, and acting. The best example of this is Vega’s latest single, “Down Crazy,” produced by Blaq N Mild (Drake, Beyonce), with an accompanying music video directed by Abdullah Webster that showcases Vega’s talent in all these areas.
Vega made her musical debut during Winter 2020 with her holiday-themed single, “Mistletoe Kiss,” which began as a TikTok sensation garnering over 10 million views and found its way to the soundtrack of “The App That Stole Christmas,” spearheaded by Jay Q The Legend. By that time, she had already appeared in ABC Hallmark movie “The Makeover”, alongside Julia Stiles and David Walton, flexing acting muscles she had been developing since she was a kid while performing every available role in musical theatre she could get her hand on. Her father, a jazz musician, taught her music theory at a very young age. Vega grew up in and around the studios of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, which certainly played a role in inspiring her to write her own music since she was just 12 years old.
2021 became an incredible year of releases for Vega, including her debut original song “Watchu Tryna Do?” which inspired a number of remixes, including collaborations with rappers TEC and Big Freedia. She also released “4 The Birds,” produced by Grammy-winning producers 1500 or Nothin’ (Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake) and co-written by Grammy-nominated Hookman (Jason Derulo, Kalin & Myles, Hot Chelle Rae). Vega wrapped 2021 with another holiday track, “Very Merry Christmas,” which was listened to more than a million times on Spotify alone.
Presently, fans are eagerly awaiting Vega’s next projects. We can be sure that she will continue to highlight her talents as a songwriter and artist, dancer, actress in subsequent releases, music videos, and possibly future feature films.
