Vacatixn Inspired by 90s R&B in New Single “Yesterday”

East London-native hip hop artist Vacatixn keeps up with old flames in his new music video for his single, “Yesterday.” This is Vacatixn’s third single since his second EP, “Thelonious Monks.”

Stephen Boyce, otherwise known as Vacatixn, has been writing, producing, and releasing original music for about four years; his debut EP “Harmony”, released in April 2020, illustrates his experiments in combining influences from the jazz, hip hop, and R&B genres. Most of his music proves his flexibility and ability to meld recognizable sounds from multiple genres together. He hopes that the listener can find relataility within his music, so much so that they “can comprehend and be a part of the sound itself, creating an escape to a moment in time tailored to every individual.”

“Yesterday” is an emotional single that retains a moveable and groovy beat. While the sound is incredibly evocative of old-school hip hop and R&B, the stand out of this record is the lyrics. Boyce opens up about his unrequited feelings, and emphasizes how long he has felt this way.

I’ve felt this way since yesterday

So invoked in on your hopes to rest today

I see your needs were swept away

In the night from the thieves who dress to play

Why surely you know

I’d go where you go in search of remedies

Distant memories

Missed in melodies

I pray you never leave
