Tonia Provides ‘Sweet Relief’ in Newest Single

Tonia - Afloat - Album Art

“Afloat” highlights the vocal talents of Tonia in every which way, from the clarity in her performance to her placement in the mix. The album contains four songs (plus a remix) including fan favorite “Flux” which won the hearts of BBC Radio’s Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri, Gemma Bradley, and BBC Introducing. Songs like “Empty Conversations” and the EP’s title track are infused with pop and R&B elements whose smooth delivery reinforces the ideas of falling in love with another, and choosing love for yourself.

“The EP is a scrapbook of different moments over the past four years,” notes Tonia. “Writing each song has helped me process heartbreak, overthinking, love, and times of learning, growth and moving on.”

“Sweet Relief” is just now finding its way to listener’s hearts but is poised to move in a big way. Initially, Tonia’s sweetly sung and sincere lyrics pour over arpeggiate guitar and the sounds of a babbling brook. The song evolves naturally and confidently, retaining something of a peaceful, ‘lazy river’ kind of sound while still thriving within the groove.

“With most of the songs based on lost love and heartbreak, I chose to end the EP on a more hopeful note,” Tonia says. “I wrote ‘Sweet Relief’ over zoom during lockdown with one of my best friends. It’s about the waves of different emotions and sometimes overwhelming thoughts that come with falling in love. Love can be confusing, and writing this song was cathartic. It helped me find clarity and overcome barriers due to past relationships.”
