The Scarlet Opera Are Rock Stars in New Video for “Big City Thing”

Los Angeles-based rock band The Scarlet Opera is back with their next single, “Big City Thing.” The song is a laid-back rock anthem for anyone who wants to make it in the “big city.”

Formed as ‘Perta’ in 2016, The Scarlet Opera is led by lyricist and frontman Luka Bazulka, Colin Kenrick (keyboard), Daniel Zuker (bass), Justin Siegal (drums), and Chance Taylor (guitar). After a brief hiatus, the band is back for their next era. Having opened for Phoenix earlier this January, played the Troubadour, and played the Bowery Ballroom, The Scarlet Opera’s talent for performance illustrates their commitment to making good music and the “pursuit of happiness.”

“Big City Thing” is The Scarlet Opera’s second single, following “The Place to Be.” The up-beat, feel-good rock song sings the hopes and dreams of being a “big city thing.” Complete with invigorating horns and theater-inspired vocals, the song harkens back to 70’s rock, similar to Queen.

The lyric video emphasizes the message of the song, starting with home video footage of lead singer Luka Bazulka playing music as a kid. The nostalgic nature of the video illustrates how the dream has essentially stayed the same.

Of the single, the band said, “From rural Pennsylvania to the flamboyant streets of Los Angeles, this record is a playful reflection of the many years we’ve spent on the pursuit of happiness.”
