“Plague Dogs” by The Rural Alberta Advantage leads the way for the band’s in-progress tour making its way to Songbyrd in Washington D.C. 3/27

The Rural Alberta Advantage - 2023 Tour Dates - The band lines up in front of the doors of a three car garage

Folk-rock trio The Rural Alberta Advantage (The RAA) are back with a brand new single, “Plague Dogs” and accompanying music video, and well into their 2023 U.S. tour with Georgia Harmer. The band makes their way to Songbyrd in the heart of Washington D.C. on Monday, March 27, 2023 as well as Richmond Music Hall at Capital Ale House on Tuesday, March 28, 2023

Discussing “Plague Dogs”, guitarist/vocalist Nils Edenloff shared , “Being a child of the 80’s the movie ‘Watership Down’ was long ago seared into my brain, and it was in 2019 that I came across one of Richard Adams’ other novels ‘Plague Dogs’. Having read ‘Watership Down’ and ‘Shardick’ when I first moved to Toronto, I found myself drawn to ‘Plague Dogs’, and found the title creeping into a song we were playing around with in early 2020.

The song doesn’t end up following the events of the novel in any way, but it underscores the specific time frame that we started to work on this song. The feelings of dread, uncertainty and isolation that I felt while reading the novel, along with the eerily similar feelings around early on in the pandemic are so tightly coupled with this song that it all feels like one for me.”

“Plague Dogs” is the first new music since the band released The Rise EP in 2022. The six song collection featured the single “CANDU,” which garnered praise from Stereogum, Under the Radar, CBC Music, Exclaim, and of course, the fans, who are even now making their way to one or more venues hosting the 18 city tour. “Plague Dogs” somehow manages to contain both a searing energy and a quiet vulnerability as the band’s celebrated percussive nature provides contrast between moments of tension as well as reflection, recognition, and acceptance.

We imagine it is one of many you’ll be singing along to in D.C. and Richmond later this month. Find “Plague Dogs” on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture playlist on YouTube and Spotify.
