The Octobers Love Like “Giallo”

The Octobers’ latest album, Giallo, is innovative and creative.

Bel Air, Maryland based married couple Gianni and Laina is The Octobers. The pair met in high school, where they bonded over their mutual love of music. This love has created a unique style that draws from a wide variety of influences: from traditional American folk to 80’s pop. The duo currently lives with their dog Daisy in a 30 foot pull-behind camper, which they use to travel the country.

Their latest album was totally self-produced, but hardly a solo effort. They “collaborated
with other musicians and friends across the country during their travels, collecting fiddle tracks in Arizona, harmonies in Ohio, piano in Maryland, and harmonica in California.”

Inspiration for the album came from giallo film, an Italian mystery fiction and thriller genre.

“I wrote the line ‘I love you like giallo’ on my way home from work one day,” says Gianni. “Naturally, I decided to write a whole silly song where every line is a reference to a different giallo movie. When I showed the song to Laina, she excitedly suggested we write a whole backstory for the two characters in the song. Seven songs later, we had a whole giallo inspired story album.”
