The Luka State Channels Vulnerability in New Single “Matter of Fact”

English indie-rock band The Luka State is rocking with their newest single “Matter of Fact.” The new single is the second from their upcoming album, “More Than This”, set for release March 10, 2023.

Band members Conrad Ellis (vocals), Sam Bell (bass, vocals), Jake Barnabas (drums), and Lewis Pusey (guitar) met as childhood friends in their town of Winsford. Their debut album, “Fall In Fall Out,” was released in 2021 and has since received commercial and critical acclaim.

“Matter of Fact” is a song that sticks to true rock inspirations. Heavy on the electric guitar and fast-paced, the lead single is nostalgic of 2010’s rock, similar to Arctic Monkeys and Cage the Elephant. About the band’s next lead single, The Luka State’s singer and lead songwriter Conrad Ellis explains, “‘Matter of Fact’ asks the simple question that we all sometimes long to hear the answer to.. Will you still love me when I’m at my worst the same way you love me when I’m at my best?””

“I really had to dive deep inside myself on the vocals on this track, find raw emotion from within and really tap into it,” said Ellis. “I always find that when I’m doing vocals in the studio I have to be as vulnerable as I can possibly be but also have super laser focus. This song took a while to get right in the studio with our producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Maximo Park, U2) continually pushing us to find that last little bit of studio magic.”

Foghat Sonic Mojo 2024 Tour. Fillmore Silver Spring, MD March 9

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
