The Legacy of DC Post-Punk Rock Band Outerloop Continues to Grow with Self-Titled Full-Length Album

By Daniel Warren Hill

Post-punk rock band from Washington D.C., Outerloop has just released their self-titled full-length debut album, Outerloop featuring the leading single “Just Behave.”

Containing 12 high energy rock tracks that fans of Paramore, Pvris, and Flyleaf will definitely form a strong connection with, it’s hard to believe that Outerloop contains entirely new material not seen (or heard) previously on their debut EP, “EP 01”, released in January of this year. The ‘secret’ is that all 18 songs that appear on the EP and the LP were recorded in February of 2021 over just a jaw-dropping 5-day period with J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore, MD; the tracks were then mastered by Dan Coutant at Sun Room in New York. Needless to say, with such a cohesive sound, if you are a fan of the one, you will quickly become a fan of the other.

With members from Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia, the collaborative energy and commitment to their vision truly highlight the regional nature of the DMV music scene. The music produced by Taisha Estrada (vocals), Patrick Gough (drums), Mike Larmoyeux (bass), and Don Potter (guitar) is aggressive and percussive; reminiscent of the high energy and overall attitude of 90’s pop / alternative rock band No Doubt. No doubt (no pun intended), local area rock stations such as DC 101 and WHFS have greatly contributed to the region’s access to those influences over the years, and these stations (and stations like them) will want to consider how efficiently Outerloop taps into those sounds with complete autonomy and originality. After all, their patented individuality has already been recognized by The Washington Post, Yack Magazine, NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series, as well as our humble staff here at Alchemical Records.

The band is offering a limited pressing of the album on CD via Bandcamp and Outerloop is also available now on all major streaming platforms. Find “Just Behave” and more great music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture Playlist on Spotify.
