The debut album by Washington D.C. area recording artist Linc Bradham, “Learning” captures a snapshot of a man coming to grips with the feelings that accompany making the journey from youth into adulthood…while trying to strike a balance between fun and responsibility. And isn’t that what we all want? Linc invites listeners to “Stay” and “Learn” with him for a while, and hear 16 tales of a life lived through 7 states (Georgia, North Carolina, New York, California, Texas, Maryland, and Virginia), 4 countries (Rwanda, Ireland, Jordan, and of course, the United States), and enjoy themselves along the whole way…while looking within and finding what is truly important to him, her, or theirselves and focusing on that into the next chapter of their own personal journey. Linc hopes the vulnerabilities of these songs will empower listeners to do just that.

The recording process of Learning is one that hearkens back to the recording days of old, when Led Zeppelin would record in castles to tape and all parts were played in one take. In 2021, Linc, along with his recording engineer, Collin Peterson of Manor Time Recording Co., adventured to South Carolina with Savannah, GA-based drummer Max Christman, and bassist Darien Converse. They recorded all of the rhythm tracks of Learning in a cabin with 25 ft. ceilings in the middle of the woods over the span of five days. The beautiful, secluded location afforded the band the opportunity to truly internalize the music by cutting out all worldly distractions and focusing on collaboration.

Following this, Linc recorded all piano, organ, vocal, and most of the rhythm guitar and percussion tracks at Collin’s studio in Silver Spring, MD. Subsequently, Asheville, NC-based guitarist and longtime mentor and friend to Linc, Dan Seriff, recorded all of the lead guitar and some rhythm guitar tracks at his studio in Asheville, I Shot the Seriff Studios. And finally, Charlottesville, VA-based multi-instrumentalist Gina Sobel recorded saxophone for the song “Sorry I’m Not Sorry” along with flute for the title track “Learning.” Each musician brought something very different to the project, but each is so accomplished in their own right that it was easy to coalesce into something truly special. Linc handled all production of the album, while Collin handled all of the mixing, before finalizing the mastering with DMV legend Greg Lukens at Greg Lukens Audio.
