Tatonic Is ‘Loco’

By Jaci Jedrych

This reading of Alchemical Records content provides a multimedia experience for our audience while increasing the accessibility of our content to persons with hearing loss, low vision, dyslexia, physical or motor disabilities, or are on the autism spectrum.

Originally from the north of England, Tatonic is now making noises in Melbourne, Australia, and his latest is “Loco,” a collaboration with TONYG.

Tatonic’s music is alternative hip-hop. He has released dozens of singles and EPs, as well as an album, since 2015. He uses the space in his songs in a creative and full way.

TONYG was born in Camden, Arkansas. His interest in hip-hop evolved in high school and further grew from being surrounded by talented peers and relatives. His music is inspired by Jay-Z’s upbringing in the music business, with respect to J. Cole’s craftsmanship. While he was influenced by his relatives, he also looked up to established rap artists such as Biggie Smalls and Tupac.

Tatonic and TONYG’s song is full of unique textures, creating a full and rich soundscape that is pleasing to a range of listeners. “Loco” is “themed around persistence and making it in the music business despite people saying you’re ‘loco’ (and they don’t realize that true ‘success’ comes from spending your time making music),” Tatonic notes. The instrumentation originated as a reggae track with live bass but evolved into a unique hip-hop track.

Fans of conscious and alternative hip-hop should check out “Loco.” Follow our Alchemical Weekly Spotify Playlist for more great music featured on the site.
