Tai Mystique Tells All Her Secrets in New EP “Where Do I Go”

By Daniel Warren Hill

“If music were a person, they would be who I would tell all my secrets to.” – Tai Mystique

Singer-Songwriter Tai Mystique has unveiled a vibrant new five-song EP “Where Do I Go”. The title track is a duet featuring fellow Wisconsin-based R&B / Alternative artist Felix Ramsey. Their interwoven harmonies blend beautifully as the sounds of a Latin rhythm and fingerstyle guitar provide the musical foundation for the vocalists’ dance.

Tai Mystique’s “Where Do I Go” EP features songs released individually since her debut with 2020’s “Last Summer” EP, including “Toxic” which points to the ways a relationship is in decline and has attracted nearly 150,000 plays on Spotify alone since its release in 2021. “Be Without Me”, highlights what is now lost since the relationship is over, while “Can You Feel Me”, released earlier this year, has a more loving and protective nature to it. “Euphoria”, the EP’s closing track is a more mellow track with an ambient soundscape tied to a smooth groove imbued with sensuality.

The collection of these songs into the cohesive narrative of the EP draws attention to the impressive character of each individual song. The fact that Tai Mystique writes all her own music attributes to her infectious and enticing sound as well as comparisons to the likes of Jackson and Aaliyah. In spite of Mystique’s creative control over her sound, she lends a lot of credit to her collaborative team including producers Johnny Innuendo, Daniel Cruz, and Daniel Graham, as well as engineer Tai the Don and her A&R team at Rell. The EP also features the talents Destiny Moriah and Baby J.

If you are a fan of contemporary R&B, you will really appreciate the tone and sentimentality of “Where Do I Go”. Both the EP and the song itself will pave the way to establish Tai as a modern-day Janet Jackson and Anita Baker.

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
