TAELA Talks about the Trouble with Social Media in New Single

By Margaret Adams

This reading of Alchemical Records content provides a multimedia experience for our audience while increasing the accessibility of our content to persons with hearing loss, low vision, dyslexia, physical or motor disabilities, or are on the autism spectrum.

St. Louis-native TAELA recently released her new single “Trophy” on February 4. This is her third single after debuting with “L.A. Money Dreams” in 2021, and her first fully independent release.

The singer-songwriter explores her relationship with social media and how perceptions on social media can become consuming. The production works with the message very well, creating an anthem-like energy to the song. The choir in the background also adds a layer of passion and emotion.

“I wrote this song about my personal struggle with social media,” said TAELA about the new single. “I’ve found it really easy to lose myself constantly trying to look good online and live up to society’s standards… and I’ve realized a lot of people struggle with the same thing.

“Everybody is so quick to judge based solely off of their personal perspective,” she added. “Social media gives anybody and everybody access to an opinion of you, and that can be mentally exhausting. I loved the idea of ‘here’s your trophy’ like ‘here’s a cookie! Congratulations – you think you know me. Good job.’”

Fans of Halsey, Olivia O’Brien, and Charlie XCX should check out TAELA’s new defiant single, “Trophy.” The single is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, SoundCloud, and Bandcamp. Follow our Alchemical Weekly Spotify Playlist for more great music featured on the site.
