Stellan Perrick’s Diverse Influences Birth Modern Retro “Golden Baby”

By Emma Page

Independent Indian artist Stellan Perrick draws listeners into his sexy new single “Golden Baby” by placing sounds of the city streets at the top of the track that make them feel as if they are whooshing through a dark tunnel. This is the perfect intro for this funky love song that prompts you to get up from wherever you’re sitting and dance.

“The main drive for me is my passion for music … my uniqueness being creativity and versatility,” Perrick says. “I experiment with all genres, mixing stuff to make something interesting, attention grabbing, anything that sparks excitement.”

Influences like Prince, The Weeknd, and Michael Jackson certainly can be heard on this track with Perrick’s unique vocalizations, including similar grunts and breaths between words, adding another layer to the bouncy background track. The upbeat chorus stands out as Perrick reaches high registers in repeating the title of the single, reminding the object of his affection that they are golden; Perrick lyrically puts them on a pedestal. He is vulnerable by sharing with the listener what he wants, even if it isn’t necessarily pretty, like drugs.

Guitar and keyboard shine that let the song speak for itself – the mixing, which Perrick produces entirely himself, also includes fun sound effects that enhance its uniqueness, like the sound of glass shattering. Perhaps those added sounds have a deeper meaning, such as shattering expectations and empowering others, which Perrick aims to do.
