Spanish Pop Star Gio Bermejo Is More Ready to Make His Splash Stateside With Newest Rhythm-Centered Single “#BLOWURMIND”

By Linc Bradham

“Rhythm is something you either have or don’t have, but when you have it, you have it all over.” – Elvis Presley

Truer words have rarely been spoken when it comes to Spanish pop / R&B singer Gio Bermejo. Hailing from Madrid, Spain, Gio channels a blend of 50’s and 60’s soul and rock, a la James Brown, Chuck Berry, and of course The King Elvis Presley…along with a modern twist of pop, such as Adam Levine, Train, and Prince. Active in Europe for over a decade, Gio is now ready to break out into the United States, and his recent smattering of highly danceable singles is all the proof necessary to see just how serious he is about making a statement stateside. If you’re looking for upbeat, groovy, funky, and exciting pop, look no further than Gio Bermejo, whom we’re extremely excited to see more of in the near future, specifically in relation to his most recent project – a collection of songs, video, and multimedia entitled “Notes 2 Myself.”

The most recent entry into “Notes 2 Myself” is the song and accompanying music video “#BLOWURMIND.” Beginning with the Elvis quote you see above, the song and music video both embody above all else a serious vibe of booty-shaking and foot-tapping groove. It is with remarkable deftness that Gio is able to draw the listener into the rhythm, to the point where even if you don’t have what the Elvis quote indicated…you will still find yourself wanting to clap your hands, snap your fingers, and shake your hips, just as much as Gio does in the extremely well-shot and produced music video. Don’t take our word for it, though, check out the music video for “#BLOWURMIND” here, and find yourself submerged in the rhythm shortly after:

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
