Sergio Tachini Draws On Vulnerability in Latest Single, “Pain”

By Daniel Warren Hill

From Sergio Tachini’s debut in 2020 with singles like “Hello old friend” and “Don’t leave,” listeners could get the sense that Tachini is tapping into catharsis through his art, touching on deeply personal emotions that are often internalized and if discussed, are discussed rarely. A song need not talk specifics about a situation if it can effectively share that feeling, which the Blacktown, Sydney, Australian artist does quite effectively in his latest single, “Pain.” The track begins with a mock call to the Suicide Prevention Hotline which goes to voicemail, followed by a variety of emotional contexts easily relatable to someone who feels like they are ‘just not getting through.’

Tachini’s history of heavy involvement in the underground graffiti scene brought with it times of heavy depression and drug use, as well as the loss of those close to him through suicide and overdoses. Music is his safe space to deal with these difficult emotional issues, and hopes it will inspire others, saying, “I reach a lot of youth and help them during their hard ship with the raw heart felt lyrics in my music.”

If you have thoughts about taking your own life, National Suicide Prevention Hotline in the U.S. provides 24/7 support at 1-800-273-8255 for those in crisis, or resources for prevention. You can also vitsit them at https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/
