SeepeopleS Survive a Dying World

By Carlos Ramirez

I don’t know about you… But the second I hear, “Their video was removed from social media!” I immediately hit every back channel I can find to see this video. No social media CEO is going to tell me what content to consume. So, when SeepeopleS’ music came across my desk, I was stoked.

In 2017, SeepeopleS put out a very subtle political song and music video combo. “New American Dream” has a punk vibe and features straightforward lyrics about the potentially problematic mindset of someone who wants political power. The video takes this concept a step forward with images of political leaders throughout history, across the globe, and especially here in the States; committing the acts they were and are the most infamous for. Of course, the video was taken off of some social media platforms for its political nature.

SeepeopleS have not been idle since the release of “New American Dream.” In fact, the self-described “anti-genre” band is currently working on their 8th studio album, Field Guide For Survival In This Dying World. The third single off that album, “Two Silhouettes,” is now streaming. A far tamer song compared to their 2017 track, or even some of their more recent tunes like “It Feels Heavy” (2021), “Two Silhouettes” floats somewhere between a folk and country rock ballad- the country coming from the pedal steel guitar we hear played by featured musician Cowboy Eddie Long (Taylor Swift, ZZ Top).

Quarantine was a period of time in 2020 where everyone on earth felt the kind of seclusion that would turn the most stable of minds into mush. Singer Will Bradford wrote this song during lockdown with his loved ones in mind. This explains the calm chaos in the visuals. The video uses cutout animation to bring to life characters with animal heads and human bodies.

The “Two Silhouettes” visuals created by Jack Powell (Opus Thimble, Hot Mustard) are lovely… and uncomfortable. The song itself, however, feels like a happy hug after some time apart from a loved one. With thoughts of love, inner peace, and letting go, the “indie pranksters” SeepeopleS have created a song that reflects the slow process toward normalcy in a post-quarantine world.
