Séamus Gets It Off His Chest In ‘Bad Thoughts’

By Daniel Warren Hill

This reading of Alchemical Records content provides a multimedia experience for our audience while increasing the accessibility of our content to persons with hearing loss, low vision, dyslexia, physical or motor disabilities, or are on the autism spectrum.

“And I believe that I could find a place/ Where there won’t be a moment too late/ Cuz I’ve been struggling/ But I know what I want.”

It might seem weird to begin in the song’s bridge, but this is the place where there is real dialogue happening between Marin County-native Séamus and the listener in his latest single “Bad Thoughts.” The rest of the track is a swelling whirlwind of emotion that highlights more of a feeling than a narrative.

Appearing on his newly released album The Whole World’s Burning, “Bad Thoughts” feels cathartic in that it may offer some healing for the artist, but each listener will relate to their own experiences while reflecting on the value of our emotions, as well as their cost. It is an extremely personal journey that shows how easy it is to let negativity build one dark thought on another again and again.

The listener is not left in the dark. Elements introduced throughout the song help to deliver context for the mood and serious nature of the song, while slowly lifting it up, offering a light at the end of the tunnel. The impression is that by having confidence to share these feelings with each other is to find the strength to move beyond them. It feels like Séamus will be there for you when you face your “Bad Thoughts,” and that you would do likewise.

You can find “Bad Thoughts” on Séamus’ brand new Feb. 9 release, The Whole World’s Burning, and we highly recommend you check out those other tracks, which pull from R&B, alternative pop, new wave, and experimental genres to highlight the incredible range of this songwriter and composer.
