London-based singer-songwriter Sarah Krimson has recently released her new single, “Urban Melancholia” that is full of life despite its subject matter. The song opens with dreamy synths that capture your attention right away. Krimson’s charming vocals pair with its production that also consists of drums and guitar; the chorus is especially powerful when it drops.
“Urban melancholia / Sleeping on the sofa of your tainted room and scars / Growing deeper … Rooted deep in my heart / Drawing lines on the map / Wherever you go I’ll follow,” Krimson sings in the chorus, yearning for something exciting among the city’s loneliness. “Home is not where you are from, it is where you belong,” she says. She was inspired to create this song after listening to “Nightcall” by Kavinsky, wanting to make a track that is melancholic, yet powerful. The song was fully written in only 15-20 minutes.
Krimson moved to London in 2015 to pursue her musical career and continues to grow her reputation for her metaphorical lyrics and alternative-indie-pop sound. She hopes to make her mark in the U.K. music scene by resonating with listeners through her lyrics that tell her life stories. In 2021, Krimson released her debut EP, Burning London, which features records written by herself in the initial stages of her career. Since then, she has been working on her second EP, Urban Melancholia, with producers and artists in London and abroad.
