Sam Wright Is a Guitar Genius in New Single “Shape”

By Margaret Adams

Indie rock musician Sam Wright has released his new single “Shape.” This is the third single since his 2020 EP “Mirrors;” Though Wright is currently based out of Brooklyn, NY, his experience as a Los Angeles resident is extremely evident in the music he makes – the track is a perfect “intersection of lo-fi bedroom pop and contemporary surf-rock.”

The guitar is the real star of this track; it’s such an entertaining listen, and feels like a true culmination of sur-rock and bedroom pop. Wright’s vocals are also incredibly reminiscent of the surfer-rock era, with his light vocals and the radio-esque effect on his voice; its arrival is perfect timing for spring and summertime.

The timing of the single is also perfect with the arrival of the Metaverse, as the song is about making the transition from physical being to a digitally simulated entity – and questioning what will happen.

“Where will I go? What will I be there?”
“I want to float through layers of light, I want to leave my human shape Behind”

Fans of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Real Estate, and Beach Fossils should check out Sam Wright’s new single, “Shape.” The single is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Follow our Alchemical Multigenre Mixdown playlist for more great music featured on the site.
