San Jose, CA-based singer and songwriter, Sam Feinstein, has released his debut single, “Chasing the Bull.” With influences such as James Brown and Tom Waits, this new jazzy single introduces a new take on the intersection of singer-songwriter, jazz, and soul music.
The Massachusets-native has certainly acquired an electric group of influences over the course of his career. Ever since his childhood, Feinstein has been playing music; from playing with a ska band to the high school jazz band, his influences came from every nook and cranny of childhood.
He moved to Miami in 2014 for school and found himself forming the Big City Folk Band, a bluegrass group; after touring Nashville with the rock band, The Graysmiths, Feinstein experimented with Modest Mouse-type of sounds, leading him on the musical path he finds himself on today. In 2019, he moved to Silicon Valley, CA, where he played bass with If We Can and The Monitors. Since then, he found inspiration from other artists remotely recording during the pandemic to start his own solo career.
“Chasing the Bull” is a powerful debut single; groovy and chock-full of references from his own musical journey, complete with jazzy saxophone, trombones, and electric guitar. Described as Tom Waits meets Tower of Power, “Chasing the Bull” is about the scammer lifestyle and how get-rich-quick schemes take over people. It’s a perfect single for your end-of-summer playlist, or any dinner party playlist.
