RIVALS Believes the Devil is a Woman with “Dark Matter”

By Margaret Adams

Los Angeles-based band RIVALS have released their music video for their electrifying new punk-rock single, “Dark Matter.” The quartet — vocalist Kalie Wolfe, bassist Sebastian Clarke, guitarist Micket Woodle, and drummer Josh Alves — find the fine line between booming pop-rock and grungy post-hardcore with their new single.

The song itself is a riveting experience; with crunchy electric guitar, Wolfe’s incredible vocal abilities, and lyrics that tell a story, “Dark Matter is the perfect song to reintroduce the band.

“‘Dark Matter’ is our restart, our refresh of us and who we are, it’s also our first song without ANY electronics, just raw instruments, and vocals,” said Wolfe. “‘Dark Matter’ is a song I wrote about just being a complete badass against all odds, a song about slipping but recovering. Also, a little nod at our bae Ariana Grande, if god is a woman, well then so is the devil.”

The music video for “Dark Matter” illustrates the devil as a woman, as videographer Christian Lawrence captures the dark pop and grunge energy of the song perfectly with religious imagery, such as stained glass and a cross, all in dim lighting.

The Dark Matter Tour kicks off in Denver, CO on April 5th, 2022, finishing up in Nashville, TN at the end of the month.
