Red Flower Lake Has a ‘Heart Like Gold’

By Jaci Jedrych

Red Flower Lake describes themselves as “Aloe Vera for our dried-out hearts,” something they definitely deliver in their newest song, “Heart Like Gold.”

High school sweethearts Rahimah and Abel have been creating music together for years, so much so that it has become an integral part of their relationship. In 2019, they decided to name music made by their duo “Red Flower Lake,” which is “the name “grandpa” Henry Gomez of Taos Pueblo had given Rahimah when she was a baby in a traditional ceremony meeting. For as long as she can remember, Rahimah knew she would use this name as a prayerful honoring of the dream that was calling to her.

“Heart Like Gold” delivers a sexy, sparkling soundscape. The sound is inviting yet cool, and practically lifts you off your feet. The lyrics discuss introspection, accepting past mistakes, and growing from them rather than allowing them to consume you.

Red Flower Lake explains, “I’m convinced we’ve all got hearts like gold and we’ve all got lifetimes of working it out – whatever it is. What else is there to do but look, understand, and find the golden nuggets we’ve learned from the process, perhaps using those golden nuggets to live our best lives and thrive? Sometimes all we need to do is ask, why am I running? What am I afraid of? What’s my concern?”

Fans of Billie Eilish or Tove Lo should check out Red Flower Lake, for their scintillating melodies and lush harmonies.
