Rebecca Black at Union Stage

Many probably remember when Rebecca Black took YouTube by storm in 2011 with her single “Friday”. Now, she’s gearing up to take over Union Stage this week on her “Rebecca Black Was Here Tour”. Regardless of everyone’s opinions on the song, it’s undeniable that it was a staple of pop culture at the time and redefined the boundaries of both pop and bubblegum-pop. Flash forward a decade, and she’s doing it again. Literally, because she’s released a fantastic “Friday” remix featuring Dorian Electra, Big Freedia, and 3OH!3 which has once again taken the internet by storm. Her other recent releases – including “Girlfriend”, “Personal”, and “NGL” – walk the line of joy and chaos, bringing together elements from various genres while giving Black an avenue through which she tells her fans about her own real life experiences and journey to discovering herself.
