Rauli V ‘Can’t FeeL’ But We Feel Rauli V

By Daniel Warren Hill

This Alchemical Records article is read by the author to provide a multimedia experience for our audience while increasing the accessibility of our content to persons with hearing loss, low vision, dyslexia, physical or motor disabilities, or are on the autism spectrum.

Over the weekend, In Your Memory vocalist, Omar Veras released an incredibly powerful debut single as Rauli V with the arguably Alt-Metal track, “Can’t FeeL” featuring fellow Washington DC area musician, rapper, and vocalist of Louder Than Quiet,  Alireza. “Debut” feels like the right term even though Rauli V has released a cover of Bad Bunny’s “Dakiti” and an album, Renditions, featuring other covers by Bad Bunny as well as a number of other artists including SAINt JHN, Trippie Redd, and Bring Me The Horizon under the Rauli V moniker earlier in the year.

While Renditions taps into Rauli V’s heritage as an Afro-Latin artist in a very apparent way by representing the music of Puerto Rico (Bad Bunny), Colombia (J Balvin), and Panama (Sech), “Can’t FeeL” may feel more familiar to you if you’re already a fan of In Your Memory and their heavier rock and metal influences like A Day To Remember, and Paramore, but that is where the distinction ends.

In my mind, “Can’t FeeL” is reminiscent of bands like 10 Years and Linkin Park from the mid to late 90s, although Imagine Dragons might be a more modern approximation of the sounds of this particular track, which Rauli V says will “set the pace” for future releases.

We love seeing (and hearing) the diverse range of influences that have contributed to forming Rauli V’s sound and how those international influences become interwoven with and represented by artists within the DMV (DC, MD, VA). Furthermore, now that we’ve heard “Can’t FeeL” (feat. Alireza) about overcoming adversity and finding the strength to push on, we are anxiously anticipating the next lyrically empowering, professionally produced, and passionately performed masterpiece that awaits us.
