Rachel Cousins Releases Self Love Single, “For Myself”

By Daniel Warren Hill

The latest single from Electro Pop, Adult Contemporary recording artist Rachel Cousins, “For Myself,” is a groovy song about living your daily truth without the need for a significant other. Co-written with producer Daniel Adams and Toronto-based recording artist JEM, and inspired by early 2000’s pop and R&B, “For Myself” is an empowering track focusing on the importance of self love and the satisfaction that comes from realizing your self worth without input from others.

In case you couldn’t tell / I do it for myself / Cuz I do me so well / In case you couldn’t tell / I’m doing me so well / I do it for myself

Based in Newfoundland, Canada, Rachel Cousins has been making a name for herself since debut pop single “Let Go” from her award winning 2019 self-titled EP landed on a number of shows fans may be familiar with such as SyFy’s “Wynonna Earp,” CBC Gem’s “Hudson,” and made for TV movie “The Art of Falling In Love.” The lead track from that EP, “Man of Stone,” inspired by a relationship gone toxic, was co-written by Jenson Vaughn with Lauren Eddy of the band Saint Scarlet, Blair Lane and Aaron Hickey of the Music NL nominated Young Manics. If you are a fan of artists like Serena Ryder, Taylor Swift, or Billie Ellish, you’ll enjoy discovering your favorite ‘deep cuts’ in Cousin’s extensive body of work.

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
