Punk and Indie Join in Carpet Waves’ ‘Biography’

By Margaret Adams

Stepping into the punk scene with the “Darkness and Bright Thoughts” era behind them, Carpet Waves has released their new single “Biography.” The single is the first introduction to their new EP, Inner Weapons.

Carpet Waves is a band from Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, and Cologne; band members Benny, Kai, Javi, and Tim are inspired by rock influences from the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s to create their unique genre-bending sound of post-punk, alternative, dream pop and indie.

“Biography” not only illustrates the growth the band has made in combining indie and punk sounds, but it is an achievement in the punk genre itself. The experimentation of post-punk and grunge-indie in the first EP, Darkness and Bright Thoughts, paid off; the post-punk guitar and classic punk-sounding vocals contribute to an overall musical achievement that makes the genre more approachable for those that are not regular fans of punk music, but lends itself to fans of indie music as well. “Biography” expresses anger and frustration with other people, calling out the selfishness and realities that are often not seen in our “biographies.”

With innocence and bitterness

There is something that we try

Dress us with your shine again

Why do you mess our minds

Biographies are not the reality

Your biography is black and white

Fans of Shame, Fontaines D.C., and Interpol should check out Carpet Waves’ new single “Biography.” The track is available on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Follow our Alchemical Multigenre Mixdown playlist for more great music featured on the site.
