Blasting and blessing the airwaves from Richmond, Virginia comes Profound79, with one of the most refined, matured, and unique flows of any hip-hop artist in the DMV. Blending the intellectuality of Black Thought, the smoothness of Mos Def, and the rhythmic complexity of Busta Rhymes, Profound79’s old-school influences are apparent, yet only serve to bring him to an even higher echelon of realness that the rap and hip-hop scenes have been yearning for.
Acts like Kendrick Lamar, Atmosphere, and J. Cole have been fulfilling this realness to a point. But where those acts have invented a new sound that blends jazz and soul with hip-hop beats, Profound79 stays true to his roots, with an honest flow that shows no signs of letting up any time soon.
He often collaborates with other artists, and through such a storied career of over 41 albums, EPs, and singles, it makes sense that others would want to work to create with Profound79. His latest release, “GREEN UNDERBILL,” features Johnny Ciggs on the stellar second verse and Starr Nyce producing a beat that bumps just as hard as anything on any classic hip-hop release. Profound79’s rhymes are immaculate, and when he says, “Actual facts are thrown at you,” nothing could be closer to the truth.
