This month, DMV-based singer-songwriter released his new Walk.Talk.Dance.Sing EP His goal is to make the world a smaller place, one song at a time. Eli pens lyrics and melodies for everyday enlightenment—songs that resonate because they’re heartfelt, earthy, and offer the wisdom he’s gained through lifelong travel and self-discovery. He has just completed his epic Four Directions project which includes four EPs that were inspired by indigenous traditions he learned while teaching on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona. His four part EP releases, All Roads East (2017) and Way out West (2018), Deep South (2019), and True North (2021) – imaginatively and intrepidly connect spheres and generations within a body of work that is irresistibly uplifting, emotionally resonant, and down-to-earth.
For the first time ever, Daniel Warren Hill and Maura Marcellino (me) of Alchemical Records went live with Eli Lev with Restream for a special episode of Folk Friday on April 8th with fans across multiple live streaming platforms discussing this EP that tells a story with a rollercoaster of emotions.
Eli played my favorite off the EP, “Move As You Do.” He shared a message that he got from a woman in her 70’s stating that the song was a big inspiration for her to get married! On my usual Friday morning walk from my apartment to my class, I listened to the EP in order and I was able to listen all the way through with some extra time where I played “Move As You Do” again and again. It can be easy for people to worry about whether or not they are moving at the right pace, when the right pace is your pace. When I found out I would not be graduating college in the traditional four years, I was worried. It took me a while to make peace with that. Now, I am so glad I am on the path I am on. I transferred schools, I added a major and a minor, found my group of people that understand and accept me. It is true when people say that good things take time. This track already means so much to me and I play it as a reminder to breathe, take my time, and move as I do.
This was definitely a highlight of the month and I look forward to doing it again. You can listen to Walk.Talk.Dance.Sing by Eli Lev on all major platforms and check out the recording of our live stream below.
