Marko Nyberg Contemplates Beauty and Humanity with ‘Ingrid’

By Margaret Adams

Ambient pop music creator Marko Nyberg released the music video for his new EP on January 31, featuring the single “Ingrid.” The music video illustrates Nyberg’s idea of humanity through the art of dance. Nyberg’s ambient pop ensemble, Husky Rescue, released its last album, The Long Lost Friend, in 2013.

The song itself is extremely cinematic; utilizing characteristics of classical and techno music, the production elicits a simultaneous calming and exciting nature. The entire EP, “Ingrid,” is a culmination of significant experiences for Nyberg, such as his near-death experience and the death of his father. The project was also inspired by pioneer of abstract art, Hilma af Kint.

The “Ingrid” music video features dancer Sofia Ruija, a graduate from the Ballet School of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. The choreography features modern dance set to the gorgeous backdrop of the bank of a river, complementing the video’s commentary on the nature of beauty and humanity.

The music  video was directed by Anssi Määttä, a long-time close collaborator of Nyberg with his film soundtrack work. It clearly illustrates the way humans are containers for all of the beauty in the world; it’s as if beauty is what is controlling the dancer’s movement. Like the video emphasized, beauty leaves the human body an empty shell.

“Ingrid” is available on major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. The “Ingrid” music video is also available on Vimeo and YouTube. Follow our Alchemical Weekly YouTube Playlist for more great music featured on the site.
