Manhattan Murder Mystery Kills Latest Video for ‘KillRockStars’

By Jaci Jedrych

Do you ever feel like things just never work out, like an alien in a world that doesn’t understand you? Well, after seeing the video for “KillRockStars’” by Manhattan Murder Mystery, you will.

Manhattan Murder Mystery is a rock band. To use their own words, “Matt writes songs and plays guitar. Laura plays drums. Katya and Gibbons play bass. Todd plays guitar. Mateo plays keyboards. They live in Los Angeles. They are a great band.” Matt, the lead singer, grew up in Annandale, Virginia, where he established his musical beginnings.

The band’s new video for “KillRockStars” explores disappointment. The title and themes come from a real situation– Portland-based record label Kill Rock Stars asked to set up a show on songwriter Matt’s birthday, but things didn’t work out. That disappointment was the inspiration for the song and video.

The video features a man wandering around various locations- from the beach to the city- dressed in a full-body Alf suit. He clearly juxtaposes his surroundings, and the song laments along as life constantly kicks him down.

Fans of 90’s rock should check out Manhattan Murder Mystery. The classic sound is mixed with borderline country warbling vocals, making unique and pleasing tracks.
