Malu Sixx Is No Longer ‘Bulletproof’

By Daniel Warren Hill

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Malu Sixx is a perfectionist who released his first EP, A Melancholic Mess, after four years of self-producing his own beats nearly every single day. The success of that EP and his subsequent releases have attracted audiences worldwide, with his Spotify streams alone having reached more than 200,000 listeners.

Malu Sixx’s latest single, “Bulletproof” is a departure from emo rap,  instead embracing a sound that is a bit more pop, alternative, and indie-oriented, perhaps gravitating more toward his rock roots growing up listening to artists like Deep Purple, AC/DC, and The Beatles.

“Bulletproof” was produced by Splashgvng, based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, who has amassed their own impressive following on a variety of platforms since their launch in 2019. Malu Sixx says, “The song is about a guy that realizes how much his mentality has changed after he had been in a relationship for a long time.”

You can hear how the protagonist felt content before falling in love, and how no longer being able to exist in that love, has become something less than their former selves. “I was bulletproof ‘til I met you,” Sixx sings in the chorus. “You taught me how to feel then you left me,” which at the end of the second chorus, Sixx admits with difficulty, “I’m not as strong as I used to be.”

Fans of Jack Kays, David Kushner, and Mod Sun will gravitate towards “Bulletproof” and Malu Sixx in a big way. The track is dynamic. Its parts cohesively blend into a relatable heartbreak experience that you won’t soon forget.
