Electropop fans can look forward to the release of the full-length album, MAJOR JONES, by Major Kami in the first half of 2023.
While the album is being released under Major Kami — the creative alias of vocalist and co-author Camille Miller, a Canadian singer and songwriter based in Singapore — MAJOR JONES features work from fifteen of the artists who are part of the collective DAMde8, which has been active since 2019.
The mission of this project is simple: to celebrate David Bowie’s contributions to both music and the livelihoods of artists around the world. MAJOR JONES conveys Bowie’s influences without mentioning his name in any of the song titles or lyrics, leaving listeners to feel his spirit and use lyrical and thematic hints to come to this conclusion on their own.
Listeners can catch a glimpse of the songs, composed and produced by DAMde8 members Denis Expert and Dan Burkhart, with several 3-song EP releases. The most recent EP, “Wild Bo…,” was made public on February 3rd and features the soul-stirring vocals of Sarah Jay “SJ” Hawley of Massive Attack.
Many DAMde8 member contributions are visual; along with branding and designs from artists Opo and ArtonX, each of the EP releases have been brought to life with dynamic music videos. The video for “Wild Bo…” takes viewers on a trip through the cosmos with direction by Grace Griffin, a dance performance from Laure Fescourt, and more.
