Lukka Explores “Life in Reverse” in Latest Psych-Rock Single

Lukka, otherwise known as German-born, New York City-based artist Franzi Szymkowiak, released her latest single “Life In Reverse” this week from her sophomore album, Something Human, due August 26. The single release is accompanied by a stop-motion lyric video that is driven by a vintage typewriter and early film aesthetic. The video certainly matches the track’s energy and messages.

Discussing the track, Szymkowiak noted, “‘Life In Reverse’ talks about the end of a close relationship, as both partners realize that time has changed them. And that one shouldn’t be afraid of that change …only a matter of time and you get used to it.”

It includes emotional lyrics like, “These are strange days / As I’m watching you fade away”. However, I think many listeners will find this song comforting.

Each instrument (that we also get to see in the video) brings something new; they build up throughout the song, as well as the vocals. Her sound is exhilarating and creative.

Recorded at Brooklyn’s Transmitter Park Studio and co-produced by Szymkowiak and Abe Seiferth (Guerilla Toss, Nation of Language), who also engineered and mixed “Life In Reverse” and the rest of Something Human’s “traverse terrains of encapsulating psychedelia, folding in a blend of nostalgic ’80s new wave and experimental pop that doesn’t disappoint.”

Lukka’s recurring lyrical themes explore our role in the universe and the meaning in our lives.

Foghat Sonic Mojo 2024 Tour. Fillmore Silver Spring, MD March 9

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
