Louderman Evokes Feelings of Wanderlust with New Single, ‘What About Trains’

By Cynthia Gross

Canadian acoustic pop-rock singer-songwriter louderman is scheduled to release his latest single, “What About Trains,” on February 18. Check out the song before its official release with Alchemical Records’ exclusive premiere. The warm, melodic track showcases louderman’s impressive songwriting that takes you on a journey, leaving you ready to face whatever that lies ahead.

“I think the song is really about someone questioning their sexuality and where they see themselves in the world and how they want to be seen,” louderman explains, adding “The song expresses my desire to travel and to seek out adventure – and not to let people burst that bubble. I think the song just expresses my love of life, really.”

Driven by rousing strings, acoustic and electric guitar, organ, drums, and louderman’s expressive vocals, the chorus of “What About Trains” is one that lingers in your mind: “Don’t you let my love come down / It’s the only thing I’ve got to make me feel fine.” The instrumentation creates the feeling of soaring courageously into an uncertain future.

Wanderlust comes naturally to louderman who has spent his life traveling the world in search of meaning. “I left home at 17 in Montreal when my little brother passed away, and I feel like I’ve been on the road the whole way, first hitchhiking to Nantucket where I had spent my childhood summers,” he said.

“Then to NYC, starting a band and playing the scene there, then to London again starting a new band and signing a record deal there, hitching around Europe for a year and living in Sicily most of that time, then hitching around North Africa, back to London and NYC for a few years, then to Bosnia to help with delivery of aid during the war, back to London, and now here in Berlin.”

He notes that his songs form “a kind of landmark that can instantly transport me back to that place and state of mind with total clarity and remembrance.” All of these rich experiences of joy and sorrow inform louderman’s songwriting, creating a lovely emotional depth and complexity. Fans of Paul Simon and Neil Young will identify with louderman’s songwriting that serves as a perfect soundtrack to life.

“What About Trains,” wrote in collaboration with Graham Kearns, is the second single from louderman’s forthcoming album, The Places We Never Found, which is scheduled for release in May. If this song is any indication, louderman’s upcoming album will be a triumph, a celebration of the freedom that comes from our ability to chart our own course unapologetically, so stay tuned.
