Look for Trouble with Gary

Gary is a music collaboration between long-time friends, Jayson Gerycz (Cloud Nothings) on the drums and Gary Spolarich (vocals, guitar, bass). While Jayson was on a break from touring and Gary was living in Washington D.C, “Ideas Riding” was recorded. According to Gary, an album’s worth of songs were written in 2018 and only needed drums recorded. The whole process only took about a few weeks, but they waited until 2021 to release an album filled with ferocious drumming that drives the songs’ emotional earnestness with a towering immediacy.

With angsty pop-punk jingle, “Let Down,” explores the feelings of self-doubt and hatred while feeling nostalgic for the early 2000’s. Lyrics such as “…right now, I’d rather be sinking, I’m a let down…” and “Watch out, I’m looking for trouble” dive into self-sabotage and wanting to feel like you are not good enough while blaming yourself for all the bad things happening. 

Fans of Modern Baseball and Tom DeLonge projects such as early blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves should find themselves wanting to bust out the hair straightener, skinny jeans with studded belts, and eyeliner after indulging in this piece.
