Jay Alzier Tells Audiences What They Will “Never Know”

By Margaret Adams

St. Louis native Jay Alzier is back with his first single of 2022, “Never Know.” The genre-bending artist utilizes influences from rap and alternative music to achieve a sound that reflects his inner emotions.

Alzier has a long history of songwriting, as he started when he was 6 years old; his dad worked as a DJ and had Alzier sing or freestyle over a beat. As the young rapper grew older, he would then start writing to the beats. Alzier recorded his first song in 2019, the same year he released his first project called “A.N.B.U.” Since then, Alzier has worked with artists like NandoSTL, Tommo, and Retro Champ.

“Never Know” starts off with acapella-like vocals, which helps contribute irony to the theme of loneliness and isolation. The addition of live instruments in the hook adds life and complexity to already catchy melodies. Overall, the track is for anyone going through a tough time or in need of understanding.

“This song was built upon a bunch of personal experiences that happened to me all at once,” said Alzier. “They compounded into this ball of pain that I carried with me but didn’t tell anyone about. People would continue to say and do hurtful things, not realizing that I was going through some serious issues behind the scene that were weighing on me heavily. Getting out of this dark time was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but was so rewarding when I did.”

Fans of Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, XXXTentacion, Lil Uzi Vert, and Jaden should check out Jay Allzier’s new single, “Never Know,” available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Find this track and other great music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture on Spotify.

Foghat Sonic Mojo 2024 Tour. Fillmore Silver Spring, MD March 9

Foghat’s Roger Earl Refuses to Slow His Ride

By this point in his life, Foghat founding drummer Roger Earl has visited quite a few doctors. But what may be surprising is that the percussionist, 77, is quick to point out that many of the medical professionals who have worked on him also enjoy rocking out.

“Nearly all the doctors and surgeons I know, they all play something: trumpet, sax, violin, guitar,” Earl said recently. “There’s not too many drummers that are surgeons, there’s probably a good reason for that!”

Earl half-jokingly invites his surgeon-rockers to join him and the other members of Foghat onstage at the Fillmore in Silver Spring March 9, where they will be headlining the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation benefit for the Children’s Inn at NIH. Earl, the only original member of Foghat still in the band, will be banging the skins behind guitarist Bryan Bassett and other members Scott Holt and Rodney O’Quinn. “Slow Ride,” the band’s 1975 megahit, is all but assured to be on the setlist, along with tunes from Foghat’s most recent record, “Sonic Mojo.”
