Hunter Heflin Gets His Swagger Back in “Weekend at Bernie’s”

By Maura Marcellino

While recovering from a concussion in college, Bethesda artist Hunter Heflin wrote “Weekend at Bernies”  and created a new genre that blends synthy melodic elements, electronic, 808’s, and tap drums (Flume meets Rap Caviar). Hunter Heflin hopes many people will be able to relate to this comeback story. No longer feeling like he is being controlled by something (Hence the Weekend at Bernie’s title), Hunter Heflin is back with an “action packed schedule” packing bags, going on new trips, and returning to his full self. He feels like a new and honest person, no longer having to lie about feeling good. His passion clearly emits from this song as he sings about his slow recovery, rebuilding his life, staying positive, and turning a new leaf. Listeners are definitely going to connect with the song in some way, even if they have not gotten a concussion. His comeback story is definitely one worth remembering!

Right from the start, the song’s nostalgic synthy melody captures attention and sets up the vibe for the rest of the song. It is perfect for dancing on a summer day at the beach with some friends. It beautifully combines different eras of music, such as modern Hip-Hop and 80’s synth pop. With an inspiring message and catchy tune, we know this song is super fun to listen and groove to. “Weekend at Bernie’s” is available to listen to on all major platforms.
