Hanna Ögonsten Shows Her “Rockstar” Side

Indie-pop artist Hanna Ögonsten has released her exciting second single “Rockstar” from her upcoming debut EP, “bby boo, ögonsten & you,” set for release this spring.

Ögonsten was born in Åkersberga, a suburb outside of Stockholm–growing up with her three siblings and her divorced parents, she describes it as ‘’sometimes tough, but very creative.’’ She taught herself guitar, piano and music-production in her bedroom at a young age; her early hard work paid off, as she later got accepted to a leading music school in Sweden, Musikmakarna, where artists such as LÉON, Augustine and NEIKED attended. Her debut-single “Bang My Head” was featured in the “New Music Friday” playlist on Spotify.

“Rockstar” is an indie-pop anthem for the girls; its upbeat rhythm and addicting synths are reminiscent of electric-indie artists like Remi Wolf, but the message is a letter to people who take advantage of others, acting like rockstars but not having the talent to back it up. She wrote the song after having an unfortunate encounter with a “rockstar” at a party for musicians in Berlin.

“There was one guy that you could tell had taken something, he acted like an asshole, was mean to my friend and after a while he passed out. I remember how some people helped him even though he definitely didn’t deserve it,” said Ögonsten. “After this I got aware of other musicians that are acting the same way. They live the myth of a rockstar-life but without the success and unfortunately the people around them are the ones who have to pay for it.”

Fans of Dora Jar, Remi Wolf, and Lokoy should check out Hanna Ögonsten’s new single “Rockstar” on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, and Soundcloud. Find this track and other great music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture on Spotify.
