Go on a Journey with Mae Krell

By Maura Marcellino

Back again with another single, New York City based indie-folk singer-songwriter usually focusing on mental health, Mae Krell has released a new track, “colorblind,” about losing your first love. As someone who has never been in love before, let alone lost one, this song beautifully and tragically illustrates what the pain can feel like, especially with lyrics like “I never practiced my goodbyes” and “so numb that I can’t cry.” With sparkling instrumentals, silky vocals, and powerful lyrics, this single is just a glimpse of what is yet to come from the amazingly talented Mae Krell.

The accompanying lyric video edited by Medusa Adsume and produced by Jakob Leventhal takes the viewer on a road journey. Starting off with pink skies like the lyrics mention. As the song goes on, the sky gets darker and darker until there are very few street lights and it goes pitch black. This song would definitely complement late night drives, especially when driving alone to think and reflect.

Fans of Beach Bunny, Boygenius (Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker), and Ryan Cassata are encouraged to give Mae Krell a listen.
