Gem Chantelle Reminds Us Everything Is ‘Temporary’

By Maura Marcellino

This Alchemical Records article is read by the author to provide a multimedia experience for our audience while increasing the accessibility of our content to persons with hearing loss, low vision, dyslexia, physical or motor disabilities, or are on the autism spectrum.

Young New York singer-songwriter Gem Chantelle is on the rise. As the pandemic hit during her first year out of high school, the idea for “Temporary” struck her mind. With a vivid track beautifully produced by Jamie McArdle, it is no wonder Gem’s discography has been streamed over 700,000 times!

Right off the bat, Gem hits the audience with honest lyrics, “Maybe I’m too young to be this jaded…” Many people tend to believe age is such a defining factor when it comes to life experience, and it is impossible for the younger generation to be tired. While true to some extent, young people have every right to be jaded.

Listening to this as my senior year of college begins, this remarkable song is highly relatable. In the song, Gem mentions she got a permanent tattoo (look at the diamond on the cover art ). When I was around her age, I decided to get a tattoo. It was one of the only things I felt I had total control over. As my hair color changed, my style, my surroundings, and just major life changes in general occurred, my little ankle tattoo was always there in this temporary world. It can be kind of scary, as the lyrics point out.

Sharing her thoughts on the extraordinary new single, Gem Chantelle explains, “I wrote Temporary about the constant changes that we’re faced with as we grow. Relationships come and go, along with friendships and everything else. I’ve always struggled with the idea that nothing is permanent, but now I understand that change can offer so many possibilities if you embrace it.”

Fans of James Blake, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Claudio, and Rihanna should be sure to check out this future chart-topper. Listen to Gem’s stunning vocals below.
