Belarus based electro pop musician, Yulia Ehwaz, is on the prowl with dark and dirty beats in her new single “All I Want”. Influenced by alternative genres of R&B, synthwave, pop-punk, and post-hardcore, it’s an extremely moody track that sits back with a menacing stare.
Driven by haunting melodies that seem to drape themselves in midair like wisps of wind, Ehwaz takes a subtle approach to her darker tones that meld the industrial rock vibes of Nine Inch Nails with the pop sensibilities of Billie Eillish. In the lyrics, she seems fascinated with moments of personal connection and writes that “When you find someone who fully understands you, you have all you ever wanted and you’re trying to stay in this moment because everything has an end”.
So, the sense of allure that is both eerie and sexy is her siren call to keep us in this moment with her – a way of distilling a moment of synergy into a pure abstract that can be revisited and relived again and again. The fear that comes with losing that feeling is present but is disguised and turned against the listener to make them feel like she has something that we want, and she does. This is a song that delivers on its promise; all Ehwaz wants is to be in this moment with you, but if you commit to the connection, it is not ephemeral, it is forever.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
