Fan Ran…Gritty City Record’s hottest new artist comes at you with authority, authenticity, and austere flow – smooth and silky. He’s been active in the DMV rap circuit since 2015, and has a sound that is all at once sincere, hard, and floaty. Fan Ran continues to deliver time and time again, not to mention his incredibly adept live crew of musicians providing beats that resemble the pre-pandemic touring efforts of John Legend and J. Cole.
Brewer’s Sessions hosted Fan Ran on their February 24th special, masks in play for safety, but the music itself was as hard and dangerous as anything recorded during this pandemic. Fan Ran and his band sound like this could even be a freestyle effort, but it is assuredly not, instead rehearsed so well that it just has a free sound that comes effortlessly. Specifically, “How Shall I Rock Thee” is an incredibly solid and intense journey right at home next to classics such as Kendrick Lamar’s multi-Grammy award-winning HUMBLE. from 2015’s DAMN. Check How Shall I Rock Thee out along with Fan Ran’s whole concert here:

Kaelab Riyan Folks is a singer/songwriter from Staunton, VA. Short and sweet, his genre consists of a pop-like R&B sound. He is known as a hopeless romantic, and he likes to make his music about the realistic emotional encounters he has faced. We are just beginning to learn about him, but we see a ton of potential going forward!
His newest track is called, “Save Your Love” it definitely fits into his genre range. The piano chords that are the center piece of the instrumental are simple, but has that pop-element we look for that keeps your head bopping. His vocals are impressive, as he sings, “Save Your Love” during the hook which will easily get stuck in the listener’s head. One of our favorite parts of the track are his ability to vocally harmonize in areas. Check out the track below.
