Falling is the Fun Part in “Thrill Of It” by Holly Wild

By Charlie Maybee

Australian singer-songwriter, Holly Wild, has returned with a new pulsating new single “Thrill Of It” which will release on major streaming platforms on Tuesday, April 12.

While it starts in a more ethereal, floaty sound space, this is a song that gradually boils until it bubbles the rim of the pot with bouncing synthesizers and driving drum beats. Vocally, Holly Wild channels a similar energy to the late Delores O’Riordian of The Cranberries to fill the track with some magic and mysticism. It’s naturally alluring and laid back in a way that beckons the listener forward.

“I’m just addicted to punishment” is the lyrical motif that she returns to most giving us a taste the kind of twisted mental state she finds herself in. When asked about the inspiration behind the song, she writes, “This song is about flirting with danger. Getting tangled up with someone you shouldn’t be with, because the thrill of the chase makes you feel alive”. As she digs into the sensuality of her vocals, you can feel the yearning that comes from this toxic place – the thrill is less about imminent danger of the fall and more about the narrow pedestal of heightening of consequences she finds herself upon.

Aesthetically, this is a song that was made for bedroom listening. Something to help us cycle through complex feelings in a more private space. Dim the lights, grab your headphones and dive in headfirst because the feel of your skin hitting the water is the thrill that this song seeks to simulate.

“Thrill Of It” is available now major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Find this and more great music on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture playlist on Spotify.
