Fall in Love with Lutzie’s New Single “I Love You”

By Margaret Adams

Seattle, Washington-native Lutzie has recently released her new somber, but sweet love song, “I Love You;” this is the second of six singles being released in this month.

Lutzie is a music project formed with 19-year-old singer-songwriter Lucia Opalka, musician and producer Andrew Vait (SISTERS, LIttle Wins), bassist Jessica Dobson (Deep Sea Divers, Beck, The Shins), and percussionist Sean Lane (Pedro the Lion, Perfume Genius, Yppah). Opalka was approached by Vait after performing at a Seattle Cornish Institute performance workshop in 2018. Since then, she has released four singles, along with her debut EP, To Disappear, in January 2020. The singer-songwriter has also since moved to Scotland, continuing her love of songwriting.

“I Love You” was born from Opalka’s experience with an emotional, transitional time everyone goes through: moving out of your childhood home. The song is a poetic love letter, emphasizing on the fear of unrequited love. With piano reminiscent of Thom Yorke, the track utilizes synth sounds in a way that emphasizes the lonely and confusing nature of the unknown.

“This song in particular comes from that insecure feeling of loving someone and not being sure they feel the same way,” said Opalka. “When I wrote it I was thinking about how overwhelmed I felt looking into the eyes of someone I loved and the lost feeling I had, wishing I knew what was behind his eyes and how he felt.”
